Installing your menu in Front page

Step 1:

Firstly you will need to load front page. A new html page should be automatically created although if not just select file, new, and then page. In this tutorial I am using front page 2000 although the installation should be similar in any version of front page.

Step 2:

It's a good idea to save your page before going any further. To do this select file, save, and then choose a location to save your page. It is also a good idea to save your page in the same folder as the menu you plan to insert into your page. This avoids editing the html code later in order for the flash file to work when uploaded to your web site.

Step 3:

Now it's time to insert your menu into the page. Click on insert from the toolbar, choose advanced, and then Active X control. This will bring up a new window in which you will need to choose the type of file to insert. Now move onto the next step.

Step 4:

Look for 'shockwave flash object' in the active X control window. You need to select it and then click ok.

If you can't find 'shockwave flash object' in the active X window then click customize. Search through the list for 'shockwave flash object', and when you find it select the tick box and then click ok. This will add it to the active X window, allowing you to select it again and then click ok as described above.

Step 5:

A lightly coloured box should have appeared in front page, followed by a flashing black cursor. Double click this box to access the properties window.

Switch to the flash properties tab. In the 'movie URL' text box type the name of your flash menu file followed by .swf (shockwave file). For example if your menu was called menu2 then you would type menu2.swf in the movie URL box. Once this is done click apply and then ok.

Step 6:

Now save your page again and close front page. Find the location where you saved your page and then open it. Your menu should load in a blank html page. You can then open this page again and add anything else required, such as text or pictures.

If you chose not to save your flash menu in the same location as your html page you will not be able to preview the oage from your hard disk. You page will work once the flash and html files are uploaded to the internet, although you MUST keep the html and flash file in the same folder/directory. If you decide not to then you will have to edit the html code to point to the new locatiob of your flash menu.
